What Rell Saw

A CHANGE IN PURPOSE ISN’T ALWAYS A CHANGE FOR THE WORSE:
From the Journal of Rell, written using Eastern Phonemes and Fairyspeak words.
Dated this 10th day of Grekar in the 340th year of the dominion:
Life isn’t what happens but what you make of it.
For me, in this case, that means I now own a pair of magical axes. As any properly engaged Collector I am the custodian of any goods until such time as I can return them to their rightful owners.
It is a charge I take seriously.
In this case, there are no rightful owners anymore. I can only assume that I failed in an unwritten portion of my charge. I recognize that some of the delays in my return were unavoidable, but I wonder if I shouldn’t have tried to secure the clients before haring off into the wild to find their familial magic weapons.
Unfortunately, I shall never know, as the choices I made left them undefended by anything more than their house guard against the assassins sent against them.
It had been my intention to seek out the bloodline wherever a scion or two might remain, but it had been excised, every root and branch, from the land.
I got that directly from the…god’s…mouth. Apis has informed me that I shall be the custodian of these axes for a good long time to come.
She prepared a place for me among the Fairies when I was a child, and now she has asked for her favor in return. Being a grateful servant I can only assume that this is only the first of many things I will be only too happy to perform for her service.
She asked me to be compassionate.
I have heard much about servants of Ra. Unbending is one of the nicest descriptions I’ve heard applied. And now I will be working closely with one of them, a child mind mage no less. At least I think that is what she told me.
I pride myself on my ability to recall the smallest detail in most any conversation, but this conversation with my goddess has thrown me. I was told to procure a book on my way to meet with CrIsis. Unfortunately I only remember a portion of the title, and so I’m going to have a bit of fun on my way there.
I’ll be entering into another town soon to attempt to find the book that Apis has so pointedly informed me that the group needs to see.
Dated this 11th day of Grekar in the 340th year of the dominion:
I am looking through a work of fiction and wondering if the people depicted therein are really the ones I am supposed to meet up with. These people are strange, and some of the things they speak of are simply outside my understanding, but I should be able to use my skills to insinuate myself into their trust.
Finding the book wasn’t as hard as I thought at first. The group name sort of stood out to the cute clerk in the scribe shop. I flirted a little with him and he was happy to find it for me. I have to say I left him disappointed, but that is the way it goes. He had really nice green eyes.
It was more fun flirting with the barmaid in the inn, as she had a much better appreciation for innuendo. I mean, what is flirting without a double entendre thrust into her décolletage. Repeated thrusting is occasionally required.
And a good pantomime can move the conversation along. What other reason can you think of to learn sign language than to get your point across?
She was left disappointed as well, but in much better spirits than the clerk. I don’t think she was really expecting anything from the exchange.
Neither was I so we both got exactly what we expected. A good barter in any system of exchange.
I leave for the port town in the morning which should leave me time enough to get to where I am going, but before I leave I likely need to mention a couple of other things about the interaction with my patroness.
She appeared to me in the form of a large war horse. She had a commanding presence that demanded attention from my faithful South Wind, and I couldn’t blame her. The War Horse led me out of town to a secluded grove, and then bade me dismount and grab hold of her mane. I was instantly transported into a field ready for harvest and placed before my deity. We conversed and I was given a charge to help assemble the body of Osiris.
I gladly take up this charge and rush to meet my new companions. It should be interesting to see what manner of people they are. Apis bade me show compassion, and it will likely be these wandering souls who first need what compassion I am able to give.
