Terramore’s Tribute to Overkill
Written by Terramore Gleba, in tribute to Overkill.
What ghosts walk these hallowed hills,
Where once the cry of battle reigned?
Who are these smoky misty forms that
By their blood this ground was stained?
Their cry of pain floats on the wind.
Echoing from the ridge,
Calling for aid and comfort, but alas,
The spans too wide to bridge.
Only God can help these souls who have
Fallen at the line,
Build no monument to these men, this
Ground shall be their shrine.
Let angels hover above the trees and
Guard these men of yore,
Kiss their cheeks and soothe their brow,
For death shall be no more.
Pick me up slowly so I won’t break down
Carry me quickly with paper crowns on our heads
You see I was a dreamer flown back to earth
They said they needed me here
I’ve never needed You more
We are the fallen soldiers
We’re coming back from war
To silence the war machines forever
Silence the war machines forever
And we are the broken victors
We’re born of a broken home
To silence the war machines forever
Silence the war machines forever
It’s easy to feel lost in a big ole world
Jumping so highly to reach the doors that take you to
Different castles and different worlds
They said they needed me here
I’ve never needed you more
Where will this fighting lead us to?
You are the only teacher
To give me a second chance
Oh can we live forever
Only to live forever
The medal that King Avramson gave him
Tucked away in his bag
He said don’t worry about a thing, Avramson
You’ll be gettin’ this when I’ll get back
Walkin’ down the road
Through the city on a routine patrol
War machines rang out and he hits the ground
Azariel yells “Man down”
This is for the ones who ain’t comin’ back
Who fought for their country in Palladium
And they left their families at home
To come over here and die alone
I carried his coffin onto the ship
And gave a salute as they read off his name
We packed away that bag
And the medal that he got from Avramson
There was one old man when we got off the ship
With no one there for him to greet
But the whole damn company shook his hand
We were brothers to the son he will never see
This is for the ones who ain’t comin’ back
Who fought for their country in Palladium
And they left their families at home
To come over here and die alone
This is for the ones who ain’t comin’ back
Who fought for their country in Palladium
And they left their families at home
To come over here and die alone
The light flickers,
blown, despite the glass walls,
by the night wind
that winds down the mountains,
through the trees,
past the rustling creek below
and somehow,
works past the windscreens
to the flame,
Like life and your own walls,
flickering,
afraid of the night, unsure
of the power
of light, unsure of it’s persistence
and endurance, not believing,
despite the evidence, that it
will last until morning, and even
should the wind blow it out,
that in the face of darkness, God
will set his match to you
again and again, for he knows
what we do not, that light never dies.
You will never be forgotten noble Dwarf!
